Nordic Matjes Salad
As a girl coming from Hamburg, it's finally time for a nordic recipe: Matjes Salad.
Maybe you know this delicious, mild fish, which is very often served in a bun or in a salad.
It is considered a nordic specialty.
Its origin comes from the Netherlands, where herring are fished before maturity, that then mature together with enzymes in a brine.
This is an old traditional production process.
Matjes has a large part of omega-3 fatty acids and influences the body in a positive way, e.g. it stimulates the metabolism, reduces the risk of cardiovascular diseases and has a favorable influence on the cholesterol level.
I have to add that the capers are a very important component in this dish as they give a nice touch to it!
You can serve this dish as an appetizer or main course.
For 4 Servings
Ingredients:
4 big potatoes
200 g Matjes Filet
2-3 tbsp capers
1 yellow onion
Hand full of dill
Hand full of parsley
White vine vinegar
Extra virgin olive oil
Salt
Pepper
How to:
Peel and boil the potatoes the day before or in the morning and let cool down then cut into mouth-friendly pieces.
Cut the fish in small pieces. Peel the onion and cut into thin stripes when leave in a bowl of water to make them milder.
Chop parsley and dill and leave some whole leafs for the decoration.
Gently Mix all the ingredients together. Add extra virgin olive oil and white vine vinegar.
Season with salt and pepper.
Eet smakelijk. :)
